In Atatürk's Footsteps

A creative thinking, reading and writing book for children, built around passages from Livaneli’s novel about Atatürk, Arkadaşıma Veda (“Farewell to My Friend”).

Rather than rote learning, it presents Atatürk as a friend: through playful activities spanning many literary genres, it invites children to imagine being his closest companion — studying at the same school desks, riding horses at his uncle’s farm — and to write their own stories inspired by him.

First published in Turkish as Atatürk’ün İzinde (Doğan Egmont, 2017); a revised edition illustrated by Ergün Gündüz was published by İnkılap Kitabevi in 2022.
