Zülfü Livaneli Receives the Homer Science, Culture and Art Award

Zülfü Livaneli has been honoured with the Homer Science, Culture and Art Award, presented as part of the 63rd International Troy Festival.

The award was presented by Çanakkale Mayor Muharrem Erkek during the festival’s opening ceremony at the ancient city of Troy. The ceremony highlighted Livaneli’s contributions to peace, culture and shared human values through his work in literature, music and intellectual life.

Livaneli expressed his great pleasure at receiving the award in Troy and thanked the Çanakkale Municipality. In his speech, he emphasised the importance of oral culture and poetry in preserving collective memory, noting that Homer carried the stories of the past into the future through poetry.

Livaneli also stated that Troy lives on not only through its archaeological remains but also through its stories, poems and narratives. He announced that the award will be displayed at the Zülfü Livaneli Museum in Ortaköy.
